“Grime Scene Investigation: at home with the microbes”

The public are acutely aware of the intimate relationship between microbiology and their daily lives; both in terms of good bacteria in their probiotic yoghurt drinks and bad ones that cause disease and steal the media headlines.  Few people however consider the microbes living happily in their homes and on their bodies.  In a novel approach to engaging the public with microbiology Dr Anthony Hilton (Aston University) and comedian Rufus Hound took their mobile laboratory to the streets to reveal the hidden world of microbes  in a Grime Scene Investigation.  In this lecture Dr Hilton discusses the behind the scenes action and  the bugs and beasties lurking in our homes.
